McLane High School’s ArtVenture Academy is displaying art recognizing the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers in 2001.
Students created the art the following year in 2002 and again in 2011 on the 10th anniversary of the attacks.
The art is displayed in the hallways of the T Building, leading to teacher Marc Patterson’s classroom in T1.
Personal Responses Reflected in Paintings, Poetry, and Stories
These pieces reflect student responses to the attack in mixed media, as well as portraits of victims and first-responders. The display also includes student writing, poetry, haiku, and personal stories.
“This 9/11 art display is a wonderful example of engaging students in art and writing by having them reflect on relevant and significant events in their community and in their lives,” says Fresno Unified School District Superintendent Bob Nelson.
Public Viewing
Public viewing is 8 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays. The display will end Friday, Sept. 21.
McLane is at 2727 N. Cedar Avenue in Fresno.
