Fresno State will move to virtual instruction and halt most face-to-face classroom instruction as of Monday, said University President Joseph Castro in an email message.
“This decision was made with an abundance of caution and care for our campus community and after deliberation with the CSU Chancellor’s Office, the Academic Senate, the Joint Labor Council, local K-12 and community college leaders and local public health officials,” Castro said.
The campus will use March 16-19 to prepare for the transition period, with no classes happening during that time.
The message said despite the suspension of classes, the campus will remain open. Virtual instruction will begin on Friday, March 20, though some specific types of in-person classes will continue. Those include laboratory, performing arts and campus farm activities where “alternative instruction is not appropriate.”
“Accommodations associated with social distancing will be implemented in these courses,” Castro said.
The university anticipates that regular on-campus instruction will resume on April 27, the message said, though the date may change “depending on the status of the situation.”
