Fresno police are seeking the public’s help in identifying a man who shot eight rounds at a sergeant in his marked patrol vehicle at about 3:30 a.m. in the vicinity of Cedar Avenue and East Fountain Way on Monday, Aug. 17.
Two bullets penetrated the vehicle through the right front passenger window and lodged in the front windshield and dash. The gunfire didn’t strike the sergeant, but the shattered window glass caused superficial cuts, a Fresno Police Department spokesman said.
Today, the department posted a video of the shooting from the sergeant’s perspective on its Facebook page.
The sergeant was responding to a call from a man who said that someone shot at him in the same area.
According to Fresno police, the suspect is believed to be a Hispanic man between 20 and 30 years old,. He weighs 150 to 160 pounds and is 5-feet-9 or a little taller. He has a large tattoo on his right hand, wrist and outer forearm, and a large tattoo on his left elbow and forearm.
Detectives Rudy Montoya, (559) 621- 2442, and Chris Franks, (559) 621-2427, are seeking any information on this shooting. Those calling with tips also can remain anonymous by contacting Valley Crime Stoppers, (559) 498-STOP.
