First Kings County COVID-19 Death Reported

The first coronavirus death in Kings County was reported Saturday evening by public health officials.

“The county is deeply saddened by this loss to COVID-19, and extends our condolences to the family for their loss,” said Edward Hill, director of the Kings County Department of Public Health. “This is a tragic reminder of how serious COVID-19 can be and we encourage all residents to stay at home and practice social distancing when going out for essential services.”

The county health department said the deceased was over 65 years of age. How the virus was contracted by the individual is under investigation.

Where to Get Tested in Kings County

Through Saturday, the county reported 10 confirmed cases — six from person-to-person contact, two travel-related, one community-acquired, and one that is under investigation.

There have been 568 test results reported in Kings County, and there are 33 individuals being monitored.

Deaths in 42 of California’s 58 Counties

According to The Los Angeles Times coronavirus tracker, there have been deaths in 42 of the state’s 58 counties.

Los Angeles County had experienced the most COVID-19 related deaths (300) and reported the most cases (9,197) through Sunday evening.

There were 891 new cases and 47 deaths reported in the state on Sunday.
