GV Wire asked Mayor-elect Jerry Dyer and Fresno City Councilmembers for their thoughts on Friday’s extension of the shelter-in-place order through May 31.
“It is my intent that by May 7th, we will have hundreds of businesses that will be deemed authorized and open in the city of Fresno. That means thousands of employees going back to work. We have people in this community who are out of work, who have lost hope.” — Fresno Mayor-elect Jerry Dyer
Mayor Lee Brand made the announcement, along with a plan to reopen businesses and require masks for most public activities.
[rlic_related_post_one]“It is my intent that by May 7th, we will have hundreds of businesses that will be deemed authorized and open in the city of Fresno. That means thousands of employees going back to work. We have people in this community who are out of work, who have lost hope.
“We have businesses who have been forced to close and may never open again and also have lost hope. As a city, as a committee (Fresno Recovery Advisory Committee, which Dyer serves as vice-char), we have a responsibility to get our economy opened up as quickly but as safely as we possibly can. None of us wants to do anything that’s going to be an unnecessary health risk to the public. We do not want a second wave, but we do know there’s some middle ground.”
“The decisions that the mayor and the city council have made thus far has saved dozens of lives, compared to our neighbors in Tulare County.” — Fresno City Council President Miguel Arias
“The decisions that the mayor and the city council have made thus far has saved dozens of lives, compared to our neighbors in Tulare County. Each step of the way, we’ve been thoughtful and proceeded with an abundance of caution. For that, the mayor should be commended. The next natural step, as we get to the end of this order, is to focus on reopening businesses safely and cautiously.”
“The mayor’s actions continue to be unconstitutional based on the 1st, 5th, and 14th Amendments. He and his administration are tyrannical and authoritarian. He is destroying people’s businesses, lives, and livelihoods in real-time. The data regarding COVID-19 in Fresno County do not support his actions. I will not adhere to any of his ‘orders.’ I urge all citizens of Fresno to protest these unconstitutional and tyrannical actions.”

“I’d prefer if the mayor would have listened to the suggestions of the economic recovery committee.” — Fresno City Councilman Mike Karbassi
“The extension was the right thing to do. The mayor is correctly following our public health indicators as we move toward a reopening. We’re going to continue easing into it unless we see the number of cases begin to spike again. Folks should remember that even without a local order, the statewide order would still apply. This struggle right now in the economy is a shared global experience, this isn’t something happening only to Fresno. We’re in it together and we’re going to emerge from it together.”

Thank you Mayor-Elect Jerry Dyer, & District 6 Councilman Gary Bredefeld for
standing up for the citizens against the illegal, unconstitutional actions of a run-a- way,
heavy handed, bull dozing tank driving official! This is not China! I am 76 years old, have severe COPD & demand my freedom of religion be restored. I also will decide who can come in my house & back yard, not you! That right was fought & won by the blood of so many. I too will not adhere to your orders! I have weathered many dangerous storms in my life, & may see many more. I do not need big brother government to hold my hand, & take care of me! We are hard working people, if you are too cowardly to lead a great nation like ours, get out of our way, & with God’s help, we will make America great again!

Yes, now go out and start letting people cough in your face since it’s their American right….And please do it with everyone who thinks as little as you do. Continue to spread the disease you can’t see and don’t believe in, and with God’s help he will wash away the idiocracy that plagues our Earth. Thank you!

Yes we are! That’s why we follow whatever the white man tells us, because it’s worked out so well for us. Can’t you tell? We don’t listen to medical professionals! What do they know with their fancy degrees and facts? We know better, because we just do!

What sick and dying? We’ve had 7 deaths in Fresno related to Covid. Get a grip! Free people take risks. Freedom isn’t free, and neither is lunch. Those of you who are health-compromised or do not have any need to earn a living, stay home and mind your own business. Those of us who are productive, tax payers need to resume providing for the rest of you. If you are 1) a child 2) work for the government 3) retired on Social Security 4) on welfare of some kind….you all may be fine. However, the minority of us who work in the private sector create the wealth and the tax base that is paying for your existence, so if WE don’t get back to work soon, YOU will eventually have a problem. This virus is far LESS deadly than we were all told. The data on number of people who are positive for anti bodies proves this may be very contagious but is no more dangerous than many other risks in everyday life, including the regular flu, so enough of the fear mongoring and cowardice from our leaders and the sheeple please!

Yes! Please do us all a favor and go protest in a group of backward thinking yokels and make out with each other while you do! Then when you get COVID 19 don’t go to a hospital. Go to a rally and show us how incredibly stupid you are. It’s your right as an American! Let’s make America great again with the boomer remover!

Yeah, well, Jerry Dyer and Mike Karbassi are both ignorant fools, and their approach would bring much illness and many deaths to our community. Fortunately, they are not in charge.

Let’s see we have 8 deaths,223 recoveries and 633 confirmed out of 1 million twenty three thousand three hundred and fifty eight citizens.
So a pandemic is a rampant spread of a disease over the whole population.
So when are we going to get to a pandemic here in Fresno Count as we are not even remotely close now?

There are still over 7,600 cases that have not been tested in Fresno County of those 663 cases have been tested, and from that 402 cases are confirmed COVID19. So yes, we are in a pandemic. But feel free to go out barefoot and let people lick your face, it’s your American right to be a complete idiot!

I agree! Man up and walk outside naked in a large crowd of protestors and start letting everyone spit on you! It will show us all how strong and manly you truly are! If you love me, you’ll go stark naked and scream you love me from the rooftops! Only real men who get spit on that love me can show us the real truth. Prove the all the cowardly deniers wrong!

Yes and there will be hundreds of death. Yes we have had few deaths , It is because we stayed home before the virus took off. I don’t understand why this is so difficult to understand. The virus does not care where it is. It will infect and kill whomever it wants. It does not care if you live in Fresno, given the opportunity it will kill you. Do we have to be like New York to think that it is harmful? Open up and you will see it grow and infect, kill and maim. I saw a story if there were 100 jelly beans and you were told that two were in the bowl that would kill you if you ate them. Would you eat any jelly beans? That is the statistic that we face. Go ahead and take your chance. Good luck!

I can’t believe he compared Fresno county with Tulare county. 60% of the deaths in Tulare county are from one elderly medical facility. They were sheltering in place!
