Ray O’Canto, a man never at a loss for words, has two to share with everyone: “Thank you.”
The Fresno media personality known for his “Get Dirty!” call after Fresno State won the 2008 NCAA baseball championship is at Hinds Hospice after a two-month fight with cancer.
Last weekend, during a visit from GV Wire Publisher Darius Assemi, O’Canto recorded a video message for everyone, and it was classic, upbeat Ray.
‘I Love This Community’
“I just want to tell you how overwhelmed I am by the amount of support I’ve received from my friends, who have just rallied around me,” he said.
O’Canto, also known as the host of the food/travel program “DineOut Along the Road,” said he was getting stronger. But he added, “who knows what our last breath will be? Only God knows that.”
A GoFundMe account has been established for the former Fresno State baseball standout.
“I love this community, I love what it means to me,” O’Canto said. “I’ll always try to uplift it in any way I can.”
